Guide To Scuba Diving In St. Vincent And Grenada

Water adventure aficionados will find St.Vincent, the Grenadines and Grenada a wonderful place for scuba diving. The dive sites, wrecks and coral reefs in these islands have good visibility and are easy to access. You will find at least one dive operator in most islands that offer instruction courses.Several beach resorts also have their own dive shops and dive operators.

The first thing you should keep in mind when going for an underwater adventure is safety.Whether you are an experienced diver or a beginner, you will want to make sure that your choice of dive operator is accredited by either of the following:

Scuba equipment should be well maintained and in good working condition.

The dive operator will give a briefing before every dive to provide a description of the site, the length or duration of the dive, the depth, etc.The operator’s dive boat should be equipped with first aid, oxygen and communication tools. The boat captain should stay aboard while you are diving.

The ideal ratio of client to staff is 6 to 1.In some cases, 10 to 1 is acceptable, but do not consider if it goes beyond that. The group leader should be a certified Dive Master or an instructor, and should know the site well enough to guide you through.

You may also want to inform your dive operator about your diving experience and any certification courses you may have enrolled in.If you are beginner, consider taking a beginners course in scuba diving of at least 25 hours.Half that time is spent in the classroom and the other half should be spent in the waters. Some divers plan ahead by taking courses in their locales so they can spend more time in their island destination.
